Thanks to recent rains here in the Pacific Northwest, Fall mushrooms have started their appearance at altitude around Mt. Rainier in late August. The photo shows Golden Chanterelles and Lobsters collected during a two-hour foray on August 19 in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
In addition to mushrooms, Mountain Huckleberries have been profuse and we’ve collected a good amount. These are delicious in pancakes and jam!
Based on the early appearance of mushrooms, we are scheduling two-hour group forays on Friday afternoons, Saturday mornings and afternoons throughout September. Please drop us a line and let us know if you are interested in participating. Two-hour forays occur at the 3,000-foot elevation in the hills just southeast of the town of Ashford.
